Description
Working together with industry partners, the College of Architecture and Construction Management (CoACM) at  Kennesaw State University (KSU) proposes to integrate the study of precast concrete systems into existing courses required for a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree. The establishment of this curriculum integration begins with sophomores learning about precast concrete properties and extends to seniors experimenting with structure, façade panelization and advanced precast production. In studio courses, students will be tasked with architectural design using precast concrete systems, which are also eco-friendly, sustainable and resilient.
The objective of this proposal is two-fold: 1) To strengthen our curriculum in precast concrete systems as a construction material to prepare undergraduate students entering the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry to immediately contribute in professional practice to the design and construction of precast systems; 2) To prepare undergraduates for future uses of precast systems, with particular focus on evaluation methods for sustainability utilizing precast concrete.
