The Precast Studio at Georgia Tech takes a two semester approach, starting with a semester-long workshop called Parametric Precast Concrete. "One of the main questions that we're asking is what is the unique affordances of precast which allows an architect allows a designer to have a kind of expression or an experience that one couldn't do in another material," says Tristan Al-Haddad, who runs the program.
The second semester is taught in the digital fabrication lab at Georgia Tech, a 15,000 square foot facility with robots and routers and water jets and full-scale stuff industrial equipment. Al Haddad explains more about the program in the studio update that took place online in June 2020.
