IN DENVER, COLORADO
Students apply as individuals

Applications Due By Midnight Dec. 1.

Project Precast 2023

If you are a student who has had precast concrete as part of your education - this is for you!

If chosen for one of the 6 teams you will receive airfare to and from Columbus, Ohio, all meals, 3-night hotel stay, entrance to the 2023 PCI Convention --- and a chance to compete for a team cash prize of $4,000.

The PCI Foundation and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute are teaming up to host a student design competition called “Project Precast.” The competition is designed for students and recent graduates of PCI Foundation sponsored education programs, think of this as a cross between the TV shows “Project Runway” and “Shark Tank.”

Students apply as individuals, 24 students will be chosen with additional students for alternate positions. You will be notified if you are on a team or an alternate.

NEW THIS YEAR
  • Six Teams
  • Four Students Per Team (2 architecture, 1 CIM or CM, and 1 engineering)
  • Cash Prize for "People's Choice" Award ($500 per team member)
  • New "Secret Project" and subject expert help

At the end of the program, each team will own its design solution and be competing for a cash prize of $4,000. There is also a cash prize award of $500 for the People's Choice award, voted on by the audience.

The goals of this competition? To introduce students to the many uses of precast/prestressed concrete and to showcase the availability of design assist by the precast industry. And to do the competition in the course of two days during the PCI Convention.

Students will not only need to use the knowledge they have gained in the classroom, but they will need to explore the show floor, call upon experts for help, and scope out many of the accessories used in precast concrete design.

One of the things that will make this competition unusual is that each team will have a precaster sponsor who will work directly with their team as a mentor and coach. Six PCI Certified precasters will have the ability to compete against each other for the honor of taking home the Project Precast Trophy.
