Last year more than 100 people filled a meeting room in Fort Worth to watch five teams of students pitch their precast designs for a fictional Texas high school football stadium. The winning team would receive a $3000 cash prize and all the accolades that come with winning a national competition. Students who compete are often contacted by multiple Precasters and offered positions upon graduation. Here is the application!
Project Precast 2021 once again will bring together students from universities across the country and put them in teams of one architecture student, one majoring in construction management and another in engineering. These students do not know one another and have rarely been on a team with other majors; many have had very little prior knowledge of precast. The competition to be chosen to be on a Project Precast team is growing as the prize is large, students get an all-expense paid trip the PCI Convention and it puts them front and center with potential employers. In less than three days they will arrive in New Orleans, get their assignment, meet their team members and work with mentors to design and present their best work, and the rules say they need a Wow factor too. Deadline to be considered is March 22. Click here for application. Chosen students will be notified to pack their bags for a trip to New Orleans for the PCI Convention May 19 through 22. All PCI Convention attendees are invited to the final design competition presentations at the show in New Orleans. Be sure you have Friday afternoon, May 21, 2021 on your calendar – expect to be wowed! Click here to see videos of a previous Project Precast competition.
